Assimilation of nitrogen from nitrite and trinitrotoluene in Pseudomonas putida JLR11.
Pseudomonas putida JLR11 releases nitrogen from the 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) ring as nitrite or ammonium. These processes can occur simultaneously, as shown by the observation that a nasB mutant impaired in the reduction of nitrite to ammonium grew at a slower rate than the parental strain. Nitrogen from TNT is assimilated via the glutamine syntethase-glutamate synthase (GS-GOGAT) pathway, a...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of Pseudomonas putida JLR11, a Facultative Anaerobic 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene Biotransforming Bacterium
We report the draft genome sequence of Pseudomonas putida JLR11, a facultative anaerobic bacterium that has been studied in detail for its capacity to use the explosive 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) as a nitrogen source. The sequence confirms the mechanisms used by this versatile strain to reduce and assimilate nitrogen from TNT.

Under anoxic conditions Pseudomonas sp. strain JLR11 can use 2,4, 6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) as the sole N source, releasing nitrite from the aromatic ring and subsequently reducing it to ammonium and incorporating it into C skeletons. This study shows that TNT can also be used as a terminal electron acceptor in respiratory chains under anoxic conditions by Pseudomonas sp. strain JLR11. TNT-depend...
متن کاملMetabolism of 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene by Pseudomonas sp. JLR11
The main contaminant at many military sites is 2,4,6trinitrotoluene (TNT). This explosive remains stable in the environment, and because it is toxic, there is an urgent need for remediation to clean up contaminated sites. Pseudomonas sp. JLR11 is a soil isolate able to use nitrate, TNT, or both as the N source under anaerobic conditions. At least two polypeptides were detected in cell-free extr...
متن کاملNtrC-dependent regulatory network for nitrogen assimilation in Pseudomonas putida.
Pseudomonas putida KT2440 is a model strain for studying bacterial biodegradation processes. However, very little is known about nitrogen regulation in this strain. Here, we show that the nitrogen regulatory NtrC proteins from P. putida and Escherichia coli are functionally equivalent and that substitutions leading to partially active forms of enterobacterial NtrC provoke the same phenotypes in...
